#REPOST Soon it started raining, followed by snowfall. The convoy cut down speed. There was sudden change in landscape with snow flakes on the trees. It was overcast with reduced visibility. This was an unexpected change of weather but it was forecasted to snow near Aldan. The hotel was lovely with large, warm cosy rooms and a well equipped kitchen. The next morning we were greeted by a refreshing sight - a clean blanket of white uniformly spread outside. It was -3 degrees. There was some ice on the road but slowly melting. Not much traffic. We refuelled and after a while the ice gave way to yellows, greens and reds of the foliage. The terrain was fairly flat, the road was ramrod straight and thanks to the slight undulation we could see it rise up and down over the distance. No cafes and hardly any vehicles for long stretches on the way to Yakutsk. The monotony of the drive was broken by a few bends and the odd deviation/diversion for some road work. Patches of gravel and uneven roads with potholes made the drive interesting especially for the manual drive vehicles! Lunch was at a small cafe and the hot spicy Borscht with veggies and meat was delicious and comforting. As usual, vegetarians had minimal choice. It was very cold and windy outside though the interiors were cosy. But the warmth of our grandmotherly hostess was most comforting.
